This is a post I never imagined I’d be writing.
A few weeks ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Since then, I’ve undergone surgery and next week I begin treatment starting with chemotherapy.
For over 17 years, I’ve had the privilege of photographing your growing families, your newborn babies, your milestones and your memories. It’s been so much more than a business to me—it’s been my passion and a huge part of who I am.
Like many small businesses, Sarah West Photography is just me. I’m the photographer behind the camera, the editor behind the screen, the one replying to your emails, designing every setup and making sure every little detail is just right.
For the next few months, though, my focus has to be on something even more important—my health, my recovery and my family.
Although my consultant is happy for me to continue working, I’m still recovering from surgery, including ongoing physiotherapy, alongside regular hospital appointments and beginning treatment. With so many unknowns about how I’ll feel from week to week, I’ve made the difficult decision not to take on any new photography bookings for the remainder of this year. I’d much rather pause new bookings than risk letting anyone down.
To everyone who already has a session booked with me, please don’t worry. My hope is to honour as many of my existing bookings as possible by carefully planning them around my treatment and the days I’m feeling well. If anything needs to change, I’ll contact you personally.
This business has been my heart for the past 17 years, so making this decision hasn’t been easy. But I know I need to give myself the very best chance to heal so that I can come back doing what I love.
Thank you to every family who has welcomed me into your lives, trusted me with your most precious memories and supported my little business over the years. Your kindness, patience and understanding mean more than you’ll ever know.
This is just a pause, not the end of the story. I can’t wait to be back behind the camera when the time is right. 🤍
